Difference Between PNG, JPEG, GIF | When to Use Them

We have a number of image files saved as JPEG, PNG or GIF in our system’s memory. They take lots of space but we find it necessary evil.
Even while downloading image files we never find its file type or format or we create an image we actively use any of these formats to save the image. Ever noticed whats the difference between JPEG, PNG and GIF image formats? They vary significantly in file size. When should you use them?

There is huge difference in these image file formats. While JPEG(also called jpg) image file format is used to represent still images,  photographs and different shadings of dark and light.
PNG image file format is mostly used in creating logos which involves transparency and fading. PNG is a lossless compression method so you can save high quality photographs in PNG file formats if size is not a constraint.GIF format is used in animations.
