India’s most affordable phone – Freedom 251 priced at Rs 251 – to launch in Delhi

Ringing Bells, a relatively new and unheard of company, has created quite a furore today when it announced the launch of its maiden smartphone – the Freedom 251 – at an insane price of Rs 251 only!

We are sure, you may have been asked the question by someone or the other in your friend or family circle regarding the phone. Freedom 251 is a 4-inch phone with a 960 x 540 pixel display, which will come with a 3.2MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front facing camera with Android 5.1 OS running on it.

The phone is expected to have a 1,450mAh battery. It comes with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB if internal storage.

The phone will be launched in Delhi in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar, MP Murli Manohar Joshi along with MP MLA Omprakash Sakhlecha from 7PM onwards.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the Freedom 251 phone comes with a lot of issues. For starters, the phones design is clearly different from the one show on their site. This was quite evidently seen in the newspaper ads as well. The icons on the Freedom 251 and its design bear a striking resemblance to the iPhone’s design philosophy says the report. Also, the phone is being speculated to be a rebranded version of the the Adcom Ikon 4, which seems to have similar specs as the Freedom 251.

But the Adcom phone is priced at Rs 4,061 on Snapdeal. Apps such as Swacch Bharat, Fisherman, Woman’s Safety which have been advertised on the site are not yet pre-loaded on the review unit that was sent to HT. On the other hand, a reporter from India Today claims that the office of Ringing Bells in Noida was deserted when he visited it earlier in the day.

Stay tuned for more updates.....
